Eyo Adimu: The Revered
The Eyo are believed to be related to departed souls, who move through Lagos to cleanse it of evil and pray for its continued prosperity and peaceful coexistence
Adimu Orisa was brought to Lagos by the brothers of Olugbani, the notable Idumota trader and wife of Oba Ado, the Oba of Lagos. Although they were brought in last of the three Orisas, they are regarded as the most sacred and most senior of all three and all other Eyo conclaves. During the Opa rite, the Adimu group informs the State Governor and other dignitaries about the upcoming festival. Without heir approval, the procession cannot commence. They are easily identifiable by their distinctive black and white wide-brimmed bat, adorned with a black star and moon insignia.
