The Eyo are believed to be related to departed souls, who move through Lagos to cleanse it of evil and pray for its continued prosperity and peaceful coexistence.
Eyo Agere modern addition to the is a Adimu Orisa Play. They were first introduced to the festival by one of the Princes of the Oba Dosunmu royal household.
Known for their vibrant and exciting performance, it is hard to credit the brilliance of their display to just one factor. Some attribute it to the ten-foot-high stilts that the leader of the procession walks on,while others point to the eccentric purple wide-brimmed hats with gold star insignia that they don.
The grand entry of the Eyo Agere on stills is the grand finale of all the festivities and often signifies the close of the event.
